Technically it is just a lone pepper, but that image has an unexpected weight. This single little vegetable seems to be retreating from the weight of the world. It mimics the human form, and it even evokes emotion. That photo has changed the way I look at vegetables forever. I can't help by imagine the subtle shapes of muscles and bone beneath the surface. I can't help but see the scars and tightly stretched skin as signs of an individual life.
Something stopped Edward Weston from simply eating that pepper. Something grabbed his attention, While I can't put my finger on exactly what captured his imagination, I know that I can't help but look for it too.
